What MTT, GTD and PKO actually mean

Tournament listings are written in shorthand, and the shorthand hides most of what decides whether an event is worth your money. Here is the whole vocabulary you need to read the grid above.

MTT stands for multi-table tournament. Everyone starts with the same stack, blinds go up on a timer, and you play until one person holds every chip. It is the opposite of a cash game, where chips are money and you can stand up whenever you like. In a tournament your chips only buy you time, and the money comes from where you finish.

GTD means guaranteed. The number is the minimum prize pool the room will pay out even if too few players turn up. When entries fall short the operator tops the pool up out of its own pocket, and the shortfall is called an overlay. An overlay is free money for everyone at the table, which is why experienced players watch guarantees rather than fields.

PKO is a progressive knockout. Part of every buy-in sits on your head as a bounty: knock someone out and you take half their bounty in cash, while the other half gets added to your own head. The bounty grows as you win, so late in a PKO you are often playing for more money than the prize pool shows. It also means calling wider is correct more often than in a normal tournament, because the bounty is paid immediately and in full.

A satellite does not pay cash. It pays a seat in a bigger tournament, which is why you will see several seats listed for the same event at a fraction of its buy-in. They are the cheapest honest route into an event you could not otherwise afford, and the strategy in them is different: once you have enough chips to win a seat, chips stop being worth anything.

A freeroll costs nothing to enter and still pays real money. Deep stack means you start with more chips than usual relative to the blinds, so there is more play before anyone is short. Late registration is the window during which you can still buy in after the cards are in the air, and the grid above shows exactly when it shuts for each event.

The formats you will meet in this grid

No limit hold em carries most of the schedule, and Omaha carries the rest. Both run as ordinary freezeouts, as progressive knockouts and as satellites, so the same name can appear several times a week in different shapes.

Mystery Bounty deserves its own note, because it is the format players ask about most. It works like a knockout, except the bounty you win is sealed: you knock a player out, you draw an envelope, and the amount inside ranges from a small fixed sum to a prize far larger than the tournament pays for first place. The draw usually opens only after a set stage of the tournament, which changes how the middle of the event plays. On Suprema the payout basis and the share of the field that gets paid are published per event, and you will find both in the card that opens when you click any row above.

Satellites are the largest single group in the schedule. If an event in the list looks out of your range, check whether a satellite into it runs first: the grid shows both, and the difference in price is often a factor of twenty or more.

If tournaments are your main game rather than an occasional one, our guide to MTTs in club apps covers the field and structure differences against classic rooms, the piece on ICM covers the maths that decides the late stages, and this one is worth reading before you commit a weekend to a deep event.

Buy-ins, guarantees and late registration

The thing that surprises people about this schedule is the price. Entries start under a dollar and a large part of the grid costs less than two, while guarantees in the same events run into four and five figures. That ratio is the reason the schedule is worth reading rather than skimming: a tournament with a small buy-in and a guarantee four orders of magnitude larger is a different proposition from one priced to match its pool.

Late registration is the number most players ignore and should not. The grid above shows when it closes for every event, and that single figure decides your whole plan: it tells you how long you can keep registering if you bust, how deep the field will be when you sit down late, and whether a tournament starting in ten minutes is still worth entering. Registering late with a short stack is a legitimate strategy in deep fields and a bad one in shallow ones.

On bankroll, the arithmetic for tournaments is not the arithmetic for cash games. Variance is far higher, winning months are made of a handful of deep runs, and a roll that is comfortable for cash will not survive a tournament downswing. Our bankroll guide works through the numbers properly. The short version: count your roll in buy-ins, not in dollars, and count more of them than feels necessary.

Where to play these tournaments

This schedule belongs to Suprema Poker, which is a club app rather than a classic poker room. You do not download it and sit straight down. You join a club, the club sits inside a union, and the union decides which tables and tournaments you can see and what comes back to you in rakeback.

That structure is the reason the same app can be a good deal or a bad one depending on where you entered it. The tournaments in the grid above are the same for everyone, but your terms are not: rakeback is negotiated inside a union rather than published as a single figure, and withdrawals move at the speed of your agent rather than a payment queue.

We run clubs on Suprema, so read that as an operator describing their own product and check it rather than taking it on trust. The questions worth asking before you join anywhere are the same four: what is the rakeback as a number, how do withdrawals actually work, what happens when a table has a problem, and who is the person you deal with. If the answers are vague, that is the answer.

The full picture of the app, its fields and its limits is on our Suprema Poker page. If you want to compare it against the other apps we run clubs in, the list is here.

Suprema Poker: the app and getting a seat

Suprema is a phone app first. It installs from the operator own site rather than from an app store in most markets, and the desktop route runs it through an Android emulator, which is comfortable enough for a couple of tables and no more. Nothing in the app is browsable before you are in a club: the lobby opens empty, and that is by design rather than a fault.

Getting in takes a club ID from an agent, a join request inside the app and an approval. The order that matters is union first, club second, because the union is what sets your field and your terms. To ask which of our clubs fits the limits and formats you actually play, message @rpunion before you deposit anything.

Frequently asked questions

What is an MTT in poker?

A multi-table tournament. Everyone starts with the same stack, blinds rise on a timer, and play continues until one player holds all the chips. Your chips buy time rather than money, and the payout depends on where you finish.

What does GTD mean in a poker tournament?

Guaranteed. It is the minimum prize pool the room pays out regardless of how many players enter. If entries fall short, the operator makes up the difference, and that shortfall is called an overlay.

What is PKO poker?

A progressive knockout. Part of each buy-in becomes a bounty on that player. Knock them out and you take half the bounty in cash while the other half is added to your own, so bounties grow through the tournament and calling wider becomes correct more often.

How does a Mystery Bounty tournament work?

Like a knockout, except the bounty is sealed. When you eliminate a player you draw a prize that can be anything from a small fixed amount to more than the tournament pays for first place. The draw usually opens only after a set stage of the event.

What is a satellite poker tournament?

A tournament that pays seats in a bigger event instead of cash. It is the cheapest honest way into something you could not otherwise afford. Once you have enough chips to win a seat, extra chips are worth nothing, which changes how you should play.

What is late registration and when should I use it?

The window during which you can still enter after play has started. The grid above lists the closing time for every event. Registering late with a short stack works in deep fields and backfires in shallow ones, so read the structure before you rely on it.

What is a deep stack tournament?

One that starts you with more chips relative to the blinds than usual, so there is more poker before anyone is short. They reward postflop skill and they take longer, which is the trade.

Are there freerolls in this schedule?

Yes. A freeroll costs nothing to enter and still pays real money. Use the Freeroll filter above to see only those.

What time zone is the schedule in?

UTC+3 by default, because that is how the operator publishes it. The time zone control above converts every start time and late registration deadline into whichever zone you pick, and the choice is remembered.

How do I play in these tournaments?

Through a club on Suprema Poker. You need a club ID from an agent, then a join request inside the app. Choose the union first, because the union sets your field and your rakeback. Message @rpunion to ask which of ours fits your limits.

Where to go next

If you are deciding whether this app suits you at all, start with the Suprema Poker review. If you already play tournaments elsewhere and want to know what changes in a club app, read the MTT guide and the sit and go guide. If you are weighing the money side, bankroll management is the one to read before your first deep run.

18+. Play within your means.
