The bad habit that can easily destroy your poker career

You can learn the rules and start playing poker in 5 minutes, but it can take years to polish your skills and improve your playing skills. It is important to constantly identify errors in your game and work on fixing them. Remember your school years: after writing each test there was correction of mistakes. In poker  everything is the same: being able to understand your mistakes, work out and eliminate the chance of their further occurrence turns a player into a professional.

Today we will talk about one thing that can not only deprive you of the opportunity to develop, but also easily leave you without profit and a bankroll. And its name is concentration of attention on temporary results.
Each manifestation of this bad habit occurs in its own way: some suffer in worries about each lost exposure with pocket aces, while others think a little more globally and evaluate the results of each session played.
In fact, this reason is much more insidious than one might imagine. By disguising itself as an innocent feature that has slipped into the game routine, it is the one that deprives you of the opportunity to be a winning poker player.

✅ Forget about premium starters

The first thing we'll do is stop getting too excited about pocket aces, kings, queens. It is important to understand that these are exactly the same starters which have their own chance of winning, like the rest of the hands that are handed over to us.
Raising pocket aces or kings in your box does not guarantee you a 100% victory in the hand. Showing preflop with aces against 2-7, aces have only 86% to win. That is, potentially the worst hand in poker will beat aces in every seventh all-in.
You should understand that in poker such bad beats are a regular occurrence. We either take it for granted (speaking of professional players) and do not pay attention to them, or we are looking for another way to earn money and spend time.

✅ All focus on making the right decisions

You do not need to monitor your charts every minute and analyze the results of the sessions played. Doing this, our game will not become more efficient, and the bankroll won’t get bigger either. The only thing you need to concentrate on at the moment of the game is making the right and profitable decisions.
If we're beating our limits and we know our long-range strategy is profitable, then what's the point in getting upset about another ace move? If we really want to be in the ranks of those very 5% plus players, we should stop paying attention to temporary results and failures.

✅ This is not a story about getting rich quickly

Let's admit what this game is. Not to mention those who come to play poker for the purpose of entertainment, for professional poker players it is a routine and boredom, where everything is decided by the distance, long in months and years of hard work. In a word, poker is a direct antonym to the phrase "quick money".
Modern cinema has romanticized this game too much. On the screen, we see fascinating bluffs and crazy hands worth millions of dollars. Remember at least the episode from Bondiana’s "Casino Royale", where the Bond hero epically collects a straight flush against a flush and a couple of full houses from his opponents.
All that is just a beautiful picture, which has almost nothing to do with the real world of poker. There are, of course, plenty of “get-rich-quick rookies” who have won million-dollar big tournaments. But the likelihood of this is extremely low.
The secret to poker success is no secrets. After all, we don’t go to the gym with the expectation of seeing a mountain of muscles in the mirror tomorrow morning. Or, when opening a business, we do not monitor bank accounts in anticipation of profit the next day.
With patience, discipline, and a desire to be better in the moment, as well as breaking the seemingly innocuous habit of focusing on short-term results, over time you will begin to reap the rewards of success.
